Easter Hat Parade

  • Posted on March 31, 2010 at 7:11 AM

For those who have children who will be participating in an Easter Hat Parade, this post is for you…

This time of year can be a bit stressful for the children and the parents. There is pressure from the children to have a great hat and the parents don’t want to just create the hat for the child.

The Sensible Sisters love this kind of family fun.  Even Rowena who does not have children yet, loves playing the good Auntie and getting glue on her fingers helping. Julia loves this as it takes a bit of the pressure of her.  Julia thinks that all mums should have at least one good Auntie they can call on at such times.

No bread – pinwheels! Yum Mum…

The Sensible Sisters are all about trying to see if it is possible to get by with what is in the cupboard instead of running to the shops for just one thing. Usually there will be a suitable substitute or other option available. A classic example of this was experienced tonight by Julia. She decided to make something different for school lunches when it was discovered that there was no bread… Of course it helps to have a well stocked pantry and freezer in case of such a discovery.

The Dining Table

  • Posted on March 24, 2010 at 3:47 PM

The Sensible Sisters are always on the lookout for ideas that contribute to a tidy home.  One area that Julia struggles with is the paper and other piles that “magically” appear on the dining table.  Flylady would call this a “hotspot” – the idea being that if left unchecked it will spread out of control like a bush/forest fire.

The Sensible Sisters feel that the dining table is an essential part of family life.

It can be tricky to think of new treats to add to lunch boxes.

The Sensible Sisters have a very easy one.  Much cheaper than bought ones and much nicer according to Julia’s DD’s.

Camping Checklist – what do you really need?

  • Posted on March 20, 2010 at 1:22 PM

You will see that the Sensible Sisters use plastic storage crates with lids for transporting their camping gear. These crates are great.  Not only are they cost effective and water proof they also save damaging or dirtying your good luggage when you go out bush. The crates stack easily in the back of your 4×4 or in the boot of your car and are easy to clean if they get grubby. When you return from your camping trip the Sensible Sisters recommend unpacking all your camping supplies and repacking them replacing anything that has broken or adding any new essential item to your your kit.  This means your camping gear is all in the one place and stored away ready for the next time you want to use it. This also reduces packing the next time you want to hit the road.

Camping! Fun for the grown-ups – not just the kids!

The Sensible Sisters have started a new family tradition.  At Easter each year they go camping.  Whilst camping is a cheap holiday option, it is not just about the cost.  It is really a great way to enjoy some quality extended family time.  A good time is had by adults and children.  Team work is required to set up camp, pitch tents and collect firewood.  Another bonus is that when the children return home to their beloved pets and possessions they are more appreciative of the comforts of home.
