Creamy Pasta – An oldie but a goodie

  • Posted on May 30, 2010 at 9:37 AM

The Sensible Sisters like to look at ways to reduce fat in their cooking and choose light options where possible. One recipe that is very popular and probably one of the first meals many teenagers in our age group learned to cook is ”Creamy Pasta” also known as Carbonara. There are many different versions and ways you can make this dish.

Banana Bread

Rowena:- “Banana Bread has really come into its own over the last few years. When I was young it was banana cake, quite often served without icing.

I have tried many different recipes and I think the name ‘Banana Bread’ can be quite misleading.  I know most people realise there is usually some sugar involved. However I am often surprised when talking to people and they are genuinely shocked that this snack can be more like a cake.

In keeping with the Sensible Sisters’ cooking philosophy no scales are needed, making this a really easy loaf to bake.”

Rowena:- “The weather has really cooled down. With this comes the hearty dishes that you really only cook in the colder months. I love the oven on and the warmth that is emitted.

Lamb Shanks and Osso Bucco are two popular choices during these cooler months.”

It is always popular with many people asking for the recipe. Here it is…

Selecting and Buying Eggs

  • Posted on May 18, 2010 at 9:48 PM

The Sensible Sisters always buy free range eggs and have done so for years.

Julia keeps chickens but unfortunately they are getting a bit elderly and have gone off the lay as it is so cold! So Julia is back to buying eggs at the supermarket.

When eating out the Sensible Sisters will try and opt for a Cafe that specifically states that they use free range eggs.

Auntie Rowie's French Toast

Rowena:- “I love French toast. Not so much because of the flavour or texture but more because it brings up some fond memories that I have from when my nieces were quite young.”

Julia made a lovely smoked salmon quiche for dinner one night this week. Using ingredients that were to hand, it was a very sensible recipe…
