School Holiday Fun – 10 Suggestions

School holidays are fast approaching, in NSW at least.

The Sensible Sisters thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of holiday suggestions. They live in Sydney so some of the activities are geared toward specific Sydney sights.

During July the weather can be quite wet so it is a good idea to have some specific indoor activities planned for those rainy days.

The Sensible Sisters have come up with a list of 10 suggestions for School Holiday Fun.

  • Art Gallery of NSW – free general admission and there is a good kids holiday program. Some courses need to be booked and paid for but there are also some free programs – check website
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge Museum – this is a good alternative to the more expensive option of bridge climb and has lots of info and a fantastic view from the pylon lookout
  • home projects and fun – Julia likes to get the children to help clean up and de-clutter their bedrooms each school holidays. There will be moans and groans so save this for a rainy day and then let the children choose a dvd to watch.
  • young children love to make cubbies in the lounge room and even sleep in them – easy, cheap and fun
  • set a fire and toast marshmallows on the fire if you have a wood fire in your home (with adult supervision)
  • Winter is a good time for fishing – on a warm day pick a spot out of the wind and a place where there is a  child friendly play ground near by as the actual fishing will only last about 10 minutes for younger children
  • cook a batch of cup cakes and decorate – have a selection of lollies and sprinkles on hand for this
  • kids can invite a friend over and make their own lunch pizza use lebanese bread for the base
  • jelly cups are fun and easy to make – add tinned peach or other fruit such as banana if liked (not kiwi fruit as it will not set)
  • the obvious: movies – pop a bag of microwave popcorn and take with you and a bag of lollies bought ahead from the supermarket. The movie of the moment just in time for the school holidays is of course Toy Story 3.

Feel free to add your own suggestions for school holiday fun!
