Punch Without The Punch

Recently it was Julia’s birthday and Miss 10 organised a party on a Friday afternoon, even handing out invites to the other mums.

Rowena made lovely punch in a large old fashioned punch bowl. Really easy to make, it was a hit and turned out to be a bit of a talking point…

The punch bowl has the original teacup style cups. The sisters don’t like these so just use normal glassware. The bowl no longer has a ladle so again they just improvised and used a small glass jug.

This will make 2 bowls of punch so only use 1/2 of each bottle for the first bowl and half of the fruit on the first round to allow the bowl to be topped up later.

  • 1.25 L bottle lemonade
  • 1.25 L bottle ginger ale
  • 1 L orange juice
  • 1 L pineapple juice
  • 1 punnet of bluberries (or strawberries)
  • 1 large red apple
  • 2 kiwi fruits
  • handful of mint from the garden – if you don’t have this don’t worry

  • In your large punch bowl pour 1/2 of the lemonade ginger ale pineapple and orange juice
  • Taste the mixture and check that you are happy with the taste – you may want to add more pineapple or orange juice
  • Add half the berries
  • Chop the red apple in half and dice quite small
  • Peel one kiwi fruit and chop quite small
  • Add the fruit to the bowl
  • Add some fresh mint

This is a really fun thing to make. When the punch bowl is looking empty just top it with the remaining juice, soft drink and fruit . It really does not matter if the second batch tastes a bit different from the first batch.

Children and adults really like this fun party drink. If the adults choose then they can add some  wine or champagne to their own glass.

My family make punch with lemonade, ginger ale, juice & cold tea. When the ingredients are combined we have a “tasting session” all together and if we don’t like the flavor we add more stuff. It is too tangy we add lemonade & juice, if it is not tangy enough we add more ginger ale & tea. I think the “tasting session” bit is the best bit of making the punch!
