Winter is Soup Season…

As we approach the end of Autumn and come into Winter, soup has been making an appearance on the menu for Julia and her family.

Yes, even the children like it! Served with a toasted cheese sandwich, it is one of their favourite dinners at the moment. They then take it to school for lunch in a stainless steel food flask…

Now that it is school holidays, some more treats can make it onto the menu. Caramel sauce is a delicious addition to dessert. Julia’s DD’s enjoy caramel sauce over ice cream… Try it and you will not buy caramel topping or sauce again!

Sunday Night Baked Beans

Baked beans can actually be quite delicious. The trick is to make them yourself with 4 bean mix rather than buying the ready to eat ones…

One of the best basic pieces of kitchen equipment is a pyrex pie dish. The Sisters each have two of these dishes and when they make a pie or quiche they usually make two. This way you get two dinners made for not much more effort and the leftovers are also good for work lunch.

This is a really easy tart to make mid week.

Falafels

Falafels make a good vegetarian snack. If made at home they are not as dry as some that you can buy from  the deli or kebab shop. You can add these to wraps with salad or serve as nibbles when entertaining. This is also great dish if you have a vegan friend.

The trick with these is using a whole bunch of fresh parsley…

Brushchetta

Bruschetta is very easy to make and the Sisters find that if you go to a cafe there is often too much onion in the mix!
